HITECH ACT

On February 17, 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) was signed into law. A major goal of the act is to transform the healthcare system so that it improves the quality, safety and efficiency of care.

The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) was created to help support that vision. HITECH established programs under Medicare and Medicaid to provide incentive payments for the "meaningful use" of certified EHR technology.

Earn Money Through EHR Incentive Programs

HITECH created incentive programs that can earn money for providers and clinics. The Medicare program offers up to $44,000/provider and the Medicaid program offers up to $63,750/provider. Incentive payment are made to eligible providers and hospitals that demonstrate "meaningful use" of certified EHR technology. IMS will help you do that.

How Can You Demonstrate Meaningful Use?

The Recovery Act specifies three main components of Meaningful Use:

  • The use of a certified EHR in a meaningful manner (e.g. e-Prescribing)
  • The use of certified EHR technology for electronic exchange of health information to improve quality of health care
  • The use of certified EHR technology to submit clinical quality and other measures

IMS EMR is designed so that you can qualify for all three main components of "meaningful use."
